Scissor Sisters

Scissor Sisters are an American pop group formed in New York City in 2001, emerging from the city's downtown gay nightlife scene. The band's name references the same-sex sexual practice tribadism, setting the tone for the group's playful, provocative identity. Core members include vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, guitarist/bassist Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real.

The group's sound blends pop rock, glam rock, nu-disco and electroclash into an exuberant, dance-driven style, drawing on the legacy of disco and glam icons while filtering it through early-2000s club culture. Their self-titled 2004 debut, featuring tracks like «Take Your Mama» and «Filthy/Gorgeous», became a massive success in the UK, and songs such as «I Don't Feel Like Dancin'», «Laura» and «I Can't Decide» followed on subsequent albums, cementing their reputation for irreverent lyrics and theatrical live shows.

Scissor Sisters became known for boundary-pushing, transgressive performances and collaborated with major pop figures, including Elton John and Kylie Minogue; Bono of U2 famously called them «the best pop group in the world». Later tracks like «Let's Have a Kiki» kept them relevant in club culture years after their debut, and the band remains a touchstone for queer-inflected pop and dance music of the 2000s.
