Savage Garden

Savage Garden was an Australian pop duo formed by singer Darren Hayes and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Jones, who rose to international prominence in the late 1990s. Taking their name from a phrase in Anne Rice’s «The Vampire Chronicles», the pair blended lush pop production with soft rock and electronic textures, crafting a sound built around Hayes’ emotive vocals and Jones’ melodic songwriting and production sensibilities.

Their self-titled debut album produced global hits including «Truly Madly Deeply» and «I Want You», establishing them as one of the defining pop acts of the era with romantic, hook-heavy songwriting. The follow-up album «Affirmation» continued their run of success with singles like «I Knew I Loved You» and «Affirmation», cementing their reputation for polished, radio-friendly pop with genuine emotional depth.

The duo disbanded in 2001, largely because Jones was uninterested in the demands of touring and celebrity, after which Hayes pursued a solo career. Despite a relatively brief run, Savage Garden left a lasting mark on late-‘90s and early-2000s pop with songs like «To the Moon & Back», «Crash and Burn», and «The Animal Song» remaining enduring favorites.
