Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles is an American singer-songwriter and pianist who emerged from the Bay Area indie circuit before breaking into the mainstream in 2007 with «Love Song», a defiant pop anthem written in response to record-label pressure to produce a hit. The song became a Top 5 success in the US and established her as one of the era's most literate pop-piano writers, in the lineage of artists like Fiona Apple and Sara McLachlan while remaining more radio-friendly.

Her subsequent albums, including Kaleidoscope Heart and The Blessed Unrest, deepened her reputation for emotionally direct, richly arranged songwriting, earning multiple Grammy nominations. Bareilles later expanded into musical theatre, composing the score for the Broadway musical Waitress, which brought her a Tony nomination and yielded the widely covered ballad «She Used to Be Mine».
