RY X

RY X, born Ry Cuming, is an Australian singer-songwriter known for his intimate, atmospheric brand of alternative and electronic music. Raised in Angourie, New South Wales, he grew up on artists like Jeff Buckley and Pearl Jam before moving to Los Angeles to pursue music. He initially released a self-titled album under his own name before adopting the RY X moniker, and his breakthrough came with the single «Berlin», later featured in a widely seen Sony advertising campaign that introduced his hushed, falsetto-led sound to a global audience.

His music is defined by minimalist production, reverb-drenched textures, and emotionally raw vocals that sit somewhere between folk, ambient electronic, and soul. Songs like «Howling», «Only», and «Sweat» showcase his ability to build slow-burning, meditative arrangements around deceptively simple melodies. His debut album under the RY X name, «Dawn», released in 2016, was praised for its stark intimacy and cemented his reputation as a distinctive voice in contemporary alternative music.

RY X has also worked as part of the trio Howling alongside Frank Wiedemann of Âme, blending his songwriting with deep, textured electronic production.
