Runtown

Runtown, born Douglas Jack Agu, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer known for blending Afrobeats with R&B, reggae-dancehall and rap influences into a smooth, melodic style. He got his start in Lagos in the underground scene, working alongside artists like Phyno, with whom he co-founded the Penthauz label, before building a solo profile through collaborations with figures such as Davido and appearances alongside M.I Abaga.

His breakthrough came with the 2016 single «Mad Over You», a laid-back fusion of Ghanaian highlife and R&B that became a pan-African hit, spreading widely across streaming platforms and even charting internationally. Songs like «For Life», «Energy» and «No Permission» further established his reputation for warm, danceable melodies paired with introspective, romantic lyricism, cementing him as one of the key voices of the modern Afrobeats wave.

Runtown's sound helped popularize the genre's crossover appeal outside Nigeria, contributing to Afrobeats' rise on the global stage alongside contemporaries. He remains recognized for his distinctive vocal delivery and genre-blending production, continuing to release music independently and collaborate widely across the African music scene.
