Rema

Rema, born Divine Ikubor on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, Nigeria, is one of the leading figures of the modern Afrobeats generation. He first gained attention in 2018 after posting a freestyle video over D'Prince's «Gucci Gang», which caught the ear of D'Prince himself and led to Rema signing with Jonzing World / Mavin Records in 2019. Though he initially envisioned himself as a hip-hop and trap artist, D'Prince encouraged him toward Afrobeats, and the fusion of the two became central to his sound.

His 2019 debut EP «Rema» produced the breakout single «Iron Man», which gained international attention after appearing on Barack Obama's year-end playlist. Follow-up EPs «Freestyle» and «Bad Commando» further showcased his genre-blending versatility, mixing Afrobeats with trap, dancehall and pop textures over hypnotic, melodic hooks. In 2022 he released his debut album «Rave & Roses», featuring guests such as 6LACK, Chris Brown and AJ Tracey.

Rema's global breakthrough came with «Calm Down», which became one of the best-performing Afrobeats songs internationally, especially after a remix with Selena Gomez propelled it onto charts worldwide. Songs like «Dumebi», «Woman» and «Soundgasm» further cemented his reputation for hypnotic, R&B-inflected Afrobeats with a distinctive vocal delivery, making him one of Nigeria's most recognizable exports on the global stage.
