About the artist
RADWIMPS is a Japanese rock band formed in the early 2000s around vocalist, guitarist and pianist Yojiro Noda, with Akira Kuwahara on guitar and Yusuke Takeda on bass. The band debuted independently before moving to a major label, building a devoted following in Japan through emotionally intense, wordplay-rich lyrics and dynamic arrangements that swing between delicate balladry and explosive rock energy.
The band reached international prominence through its soundtrack work for director Makoto Shinkai, most notably the film «Your Name», which featured songs like «Sparkle», «Nandemonaiya» and «Zenzenzense». These tracks, later released in English versions as well, became closely associated with the film’s emotional impact and introduced RADWIMPS to a global audience. The band went on to score Shinkai’s subsequent films, including «Weathering with You» and «Suzume», further cementing this creative partnership.
Musically, RADWIMPS is known for Noda’s distinctive vocal delivery, intricate lyrical structures, and a willingness to blend piano-driven balladry with heavier rock instrumentation. Their catalog spans self-produced early work and later, more polished major-label releases, reflecting a consistent artistic voice across two decades of activity.
