Phil Harris

Phil Harris was an American singer, bandleader, comedian, and voice actor whose career spanned radio, film, and animation from the 1930s through the 1990s. Born in Indiana and raised in Tennessee, he became a fixture of American entertainment as a big-band leader before finding wider fame as a radio comedian, often performing alongside his wife, actress Alice Faye, on their own long-running radio program.

Harris's warm, drawling baritone and easygoing comic persona made him a natural fit for Disney, where he became beloved for voicing Baloo the bear in «The Jungle Book» (1967), delivering the classic performance of «The Bare Necessities». He went on to lend his voice to other Disney characters, including Thomas O'Malley in «The Aristocats» and Little John in «Robin Hood», cementing his place as one of the studio's most recognizable vocal talents of that era.

Beyond animation, Harris recorded a number of novelty and comic songs that showcased his storytelling delivery and Southern charm, such as «The Preacher and the Bear» and «That's What I Like About the South».
