Peter Fox

Peter Fox, born Pierre Baigorry on September 3, 1971 in Berlin, is a German musician, songwriter and producer best known as a founding member of the reggae and dancehall collective Seeed and for his solo career blending hip-hop, reggae and electronic sounds with orchestral arrangements. His nickname, and later stage name, comes from his red hair, which earned him the moniker Foxi as a child.

In 2008 Fox released his debut solo album, «Stadtaffe», a bold departure that fused Berlin street sounds with brass, strings and cinematic production. The record became a defining moment in German-language urban music, spawning hits such as «Haus am See», «Alles neu» and «Schwarz zu Blau», the latter earning him a win representing Berlin at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2009. The album swept German music awards, including the Echo for Hip-Hop/Urban and Producer of the Year.

Fox largely stepped back from a solo touring career after the 2009 festival season, citing discomfort with the attention that came with solo fame, though he remained active with Seeed. His work is remembered for merging German-language rap and reggae sensibilities with a rich, orchestral pop sound rarely heard in the genre at the time, influencing a generation of German urban artists.
