About the artist
Pat Benatar is an American singer known for helping define the sound of rock radio in the early 1980s, blending powerful, classically trained vocals with hard-edged rock arrangements. Born Patricia Andrzejewski, she trained as an opera singer before turning to rock, and that background gave her voice a range and precision that set her apart from most of her peers. She rose to fame with albums like «In the Heat of the Night» and «Crimes of Passion», the latter featuring «Hit Me with Your Best Shot», one of the defining rock anthems of the era.
Benatar became a fixture of early MTV, and songs such as «Love Is a Battlefield», «Heartbreaker», and «We Belong» showcased her ability to move between tough, riff-driven rock and more melodic, radio-friendly pop-rock without losing her identity. Her music often paired assertive, independent lyrics with big hooks, which helped her become one of the few women to achieve major commercial success in a genre dominated by men at the time.
Much of her career-long partnership has been with guitarist and co-writer Neil Giraldo, who she later married; their collaboration shaped the sound of her biggest hits. She has won multiple Grammy Awards and remains a touring artist, with her catalog continuing to be widely covered and sampled decades after its original release.
