Pale Waves

Pale Waves are an English indie pop-rock band from Manchester, formed around drummer Ciara Doran and vocalist-songwriter Heather Baron-Gracie, who met in the mid-2010s and began writing songs together before completing the lineup with bassist Charlie Wood and guitarist Hugo Silvani. Signed to Dirty Hit, the same label as The 1975, the band built its early audience by touring as support for that group across Europe, the UK and the US, including a high-profile show at Madison Square Garden.

Musically, Pale Waves became known for pairing 1980s-inflected synth-pop and shoegaze-tinged guitar textures with candid, emotionally direct lyrics, often exploring queer identity, heartbreak and self-acceptance. Baron-Gracie's distinctive deadpan vocal delivery and the band's striking visual aesthetic, drawing on goth and pop imagery, helped distinguish them within the UK indie scene.

Songs such as «There's a Honey», «Kiss» and «Television Romance» established the band as a fixture of the 2010s British indie pop revival, while later releases pushed further into pop-punk and glossier pop production, reflecting the band's continued evolution across several albums.
