Original Koffee

Koffee, born Mikayla Simpson in Spanish Town, Jamaica, is a reggae and dancehall artist who emerged as one of the genre's most exciting new voices in the late 2010s. Raised singing in her church choir and drawn to songwriting after being inspired by fellow Jamaican artist Protoje, she gained early attention in 2017 when her tribute song «Legend», honoring Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt, was shared by Bolt himself and went viral. She soon performed at the prestigious Rebel Salute festival and received public support from both Protoje and Chronixx, two leading figures of the reggae revival movement.

Her breakthrough came with the 2019 EP «Rapture», released via Columbia Records, which blended classic reggae and raggamuffin rhythms with contemporary, youthful energy and made her the youngest and first female act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Songs like «Toast», «W» and «Burning» showcase her lightly melodic delivery, playful cadences and lyrics rooted in gratitude, self-affirmation and Jamaican identity, distinguishing her from the more traditionally roots-oriented sound of earlier reggae generations.

Koffee's rise has been seen as part of a new wave of young Jamaican artists carrying reggae and dancehall into global pop consciousness, drawing collaborations and comparisons that place her alongside Protoje and Chronixx as a bridge between reggae's roots traditions and its contemporary, internationally minded future.
