OMI

OMI, born Omar Samuel Pasley in Clarendon, Jamaica, is a singer whose global breakthrough came through patience and a well-timed remix. Rooted in Jamaica's dancehall scene, he began writing and recording original material in Kingston, working closely with producer Clifton Dillon, before releasing «Cheerleader» in 2012 as a modest regional hit.

The song's fortunes changed in 2014 when Ultra Music's Patrick Moxey commissioned a remix from young German producer Felix Jaehn. The Felix Jaehn version transformed «Cheerleader» into a worldwide phenomenon, topping the Billboard Hot 100, the UK Singles Chart, and numerous European charts, and introducing OMI's warm, melodic voice to a global pop and dance-pop audience.

The success allowed OMI to release his debut album, Me 4 U (2015), and cemented his place at the intersection of Caribbean songwriting and international dance-pop production. His music blends dancehall-influenced melodies with pop and electronic arrangements, and later tracks such as «Hula Hoop» and «Drop In the Ocean» continued to build on the sound that made «Cheerleader» a defining hit of the mid-2010s.
