Omar Apollo

Omar Apollo, born Omar Velasco, is a first-generation Mexican-American singer-songwriter from Hobart, Indiana. Largely self-taught, he learned guitar and singing through YouTube tutorials after early setbacks, including having an instrument stolen as a teenager. He briefly attended Indiana University Northwest before dropping out to pursue music full-time, quickly building a following through independently released material that blended genres in ways few of his peers attempted.

His sound draws on psychedelic indie pop, R&B, jazz, and Latin influences, often sung in both English and Spanish, reflecting his bicultural upbringing. This genre-fluid approach, paired with an emotionally direct falsetto and lush, unconventional production, made him one of the more distinctive voices to emerge from the alternative R&B scene.

Omar Apollo built his catalog through a series of well-received EPs before releasing his acclaimed full-length debut, which further cemented his reputation as an artist unwilling to stay confined to a single genre lane, drawing critical praise for his songwriting and vocal range.
