About the artist
Olivia Newton-John (September 26, 1948 – August 8, 2022) was a British-Australian singer and actress who became one of the defining pop and country crossover stars of the 1970s. Raised in Australia, she first broke through with country-leaning albums like Let Me Be There and If You Love Me, Let Me Know, earning a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and scoring hits such as «I Honestly Love You» and «Have You Never Been Mellow».
Her sound moved fluidly between soft country, adult contemporary and pop, later embracing a slicker, more upbeat sound as the decade progressed. In 1978 she became a global icon starring opposite John Travolta in the film Grease, delivering enduring songs like «Hopelessly Devoted to You» and «You’re the One That I Want». She followed this with the electro-pop reinvention «Physical» in 1981, one of the best-selling singles of its era, and the soundtrack to the film Xanadu.
Beyond music, Newton-John was widely known for her advocacy after being diagnosed with breast cancer, becoming an influential voice for cancer research and awareness. Her career spanned genres and decades, and she remained a beloved figure in both pop and country music until her death in 2022.
