Oliver Tree

Oliver Tree Nickell (born June 29, 1993) is an American singer, producer, and performance artist from Santa Cruz, California, known as much for his exaggerated onstage persona and eccentric fashion as for his genre-hopping music. He began releasing material under the name Tree before adopting the Oliver Tree alter ego, gaining early viral attention through Vine and social media comedy before his 2017 collaboration with Whethan, «When I’m Down», pushed him toward a deal with Atlantic Records.

His sound blends pop, rap, electronic and rock elements into a deliberately theatrical package, mixing live instrumentation, synths and satirical songwriting. The Alien Boy EP established his cross-genre approach and picked up tens of millions of streams, while his debut album Ugly Is Beautiful built on that momentum with hits like «Miss You», «Jerk» and «Alien Boy».

Beyond music, Oliver Tree is recognized for elaborate, high-concept music videos and a stage persona built around irony and spectacle, touring alongside acts like The Chainsmokers. He remains one of pop’s more unpredictable figures, treating each release as part of an ongoing performance-art narrative rather than a straightforward artist rollout.
