Norah Jones

Norah Jones is an American singer, pianist, and songwriter known for blending jazz, pop, soul, and country into an intimate, understated sound. The daughter of sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, she grew up largely apart from him and forged her own musical path, studying jazz piano before moving to New York City to pursue music professionally, working through years of small club gigs before being signed.

Her 2002 debut album, Come Away With Me, became a cultural phenomenon, propelled by the hushed, late-night warmth of songs like «Don't Know Why» and the title track. The record's smoky, unhurried arrangements — built around Jones's smoky alto and spare piano — helped define a new strand of adult-contemporary jazz-pop and earned her major recognition at the Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

Over the following decades Jones expanded well beyond her debut's template, exploring twangier, more country-inflected material on later albums and collaborating widely, including with the side project The Little Willies.
