NewJeans (뉴진스)

NewJeans (뉴진스) is a South Korean girl group that debuted on July 22, 2022, under ADOR, a label established within HYBE and led by producer and creative director Min Hee Jin. The group launched with a lineup of five members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein — and quickly stood out from contemporary K-pop through a deliberately understated visual identity and a sound built around Y2K-inspired pop, R&B, UK garage, and jersey club rhythms rather than the maximalist EDM common in the genre.

Their debut single «Attention» and follow-up tracks «Hype Boy» and «Cookie» established the group's low-key, breezy aesthetic, and momentum continued through 2022 and 2023 with the EP «OMG» and the full-length «Get Up», which included the hit «Super Shy» and became one of the fastest-selling K-pop albums of its release year. Later singles such as «Ditto», «ETA», and «New Jeans» further cemented their reputation for blending nostalgic production textures with contemporary streaming-era pop songwriting.

NewJeans became known for a public dispute between Min Hee Jin and HYBE over creative control, which drew significant media attention in Korea, and the group later underwent a rebrand as NJZ following changes to their contractual and creative arrangement. Danielle departed the group in December 2025. Despite the turbulence, the group is widely credited with reshaping girl-group aesthetics in K-pop toward a more minimalist, retro-referencing direction.
