Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado is a Canadian singer and songwriter of Portuguese descent, celebrated for her genre-hopping career that has moved fluidly between pop, R&B, folk and electronic influences. She first gained attention in the late 1990s contributing vocals to other projects before launching her solo career, breaking through in 2000 with her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which spawned the airy, folk-pop hit «I'm Like a Bird» and earned widespread critical acclaim along with multiple Grammy nominations.

Her follow-up, Folklore, explored more organic, world-music-influenced textures and produced singles like «Powerless (Say What You Want)» and «Try», though it marked a departure from her debut's commercial peak. Furtado's biggest creative and commercial pivot came with Loose, made in close collaboration with producer Timbaland, which embraced a bolder, dance-driven R&B and hip-hop sound. The album became her best-selling release and produced global hits including «Promiscuous», «Maneater» and «Say It Right».

Throughout her career Furtado has continued to experiment across languages and styles, releasing a Spanish-language album and later material such as «Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)» and «All Good Things (Come to an End)», reaffirming her reputation as an artist unafraid to reinvent her sound while retaining a distinctive, emotionally direct vocal delivery.
