Mura Masa

Mura Masa is the stage name of Alex Crossan, an English producer, songwriter, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist born on 5 April 1996 in Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. He took his moniker from the Japanese sword-smith Muramasa Sengo. After experimenting across genres as a teenager, he shifted his focus to electronic production, and by age 17 his track "Lotus Eater" was being championed by BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Zane Lowe and Annie Mac, giving him an early foothold in the UK electronic scene.

His 2014 mixtape Soundtrack to a Death and 2015 EP Someday Somewhere built anticipation for his self-titled 2017 debut album, Mura Masa, which featured guest turns from American rapper Desiigner and British pop artist Charli XCX. The record showcased his signature style: bright, percussive production blending elements of pop, electronic, R&B, and hip-hop, often built around unconventional, tactile-sounding samples and collaborative songwriting.

Beyond his own releases, Mura Masa founded the label Anchor Point Records and has become known for a broad range of collaborations spanning pop, rap, and alternative artists, cementing his reputation as one of the more genre-fluid producers to emerge from the UK's post-2010s electronic wave.
