MUNA

MUNA is an American indie pop trio formed at the University of Southern California, consisting of lead vocalist Katie Gavin alongside multi-instrumentalists Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson. All three members write and produce their own music, and the band has been openly queer from the start, making that identity a central, celebratory part of their public persona and songwriting. Their debut album About U arrived in 2017 on RCA Records, followed by Saves the World in 2019, before the band moved to an independent, artist-owned label model for their later work.

MUNA's sound blends glossy synth-pop hooks with emotionally direct, often confessional lyrics about heartbreak, mental health, and self-acceptance, drawing comparisons to 1980s pop and contemporary electronic-leaning indie acts. Songs like «Silk Chiffon», featuring Phoebe Bridgers, and «I Know a Place» became touchstones of queer pop, pairing danceable production with unusually candid songwriting.

The band has built a devoted following through both their recorded output and an energetic live show, and their self-titled 2022 album marked a commercial and critical high point, cementing MUNA as one of the defining queer pop acts of their generation.
