About the artist
Monali Thakur is an Indian playback singer and occasional actress, born in Mumbai into a musical family — her father was a music director and her sister Sukriti Thakur is also a singer. She rose to wider fame through the reality show Indian Idol before establishing herself as one of Bollywood's leading female playback voices, singing across Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and other Indian-language film industries.
Her voice is known for its warmth and emotional restraint, well suited to soft, melodic ballads as much as upbeat numbers, and she has worked with major Bollywood composers including Amit Trivedi, Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar. Songs like «Sawaar Loon» from Lootera and «Moh Moh Ke Dhaage» from Dum Laga Ke Haisha showcase her ability to convey subtle, layered emotion, and both earned her major industry recognition, including a National Film Award and Filmfare Awards.
Beyond soundtrack work, Monali has released independent tracks and performed live extensively, and she remains a familiar face on Indian television as a singing-competition judge. Her catalogue spans genres from Pop and R&B-inflected film music to more traditional Bengali and folk-rooted songs, reflecting the versatility that has kept her in demand across India's film industries for over a decade.
