Modern Talking

Modern Talking was a German pop duo formed by singer Thomas Anders and producer-songwriter Dieter Bohlen, who became one of the most commercially successful acts of European pop music in the 1980s. Their sound was built on catchy, synth-driven melodies, danceable rhythms and English-language lyrics, epitomized by hits such as «You're My Heart, You're My Soul», «Cheri, Cheri Lady» and «Brother Louie», which topped charts across Germany and much of Europe. Anders's distinctive high, falsetto-tinged vocals, largely crafted in the studio by Bohlen together with additional session singers, became the signature of the group's sound.

After a prolific run of albums in the mid-1980s, the duo split in 1987 amid personal and professional tensions between Anders and Bohlen, only to reunite unexpectedly in 1998, scoring further hits including «You Are Not Alone» and continuing to record and tour internationally into the early 2000s. The group's Eurodisco-inflected pop formula, along with Bohlen's prolific songwriting and production work, made them one of the best-selling music acts to emerge from Germany.

Modern Talking's catalog remains widely recognized across Europe and beyond, and its influence can still be heard in the Europop and Eurodisco genres that followed.
