About the artist
Moby, born Richard Melville Hall, is an American musician, DJ and producer who became one of the defining figures of electronic music in the 1990s and 2000s. Raised in Connecticut, he began his career in the New York club scene, releasing early techno and rave tracks before achieving mainstream breakthrough with the 1999 album «Play», which fused breakbeats and electronica with samples of old blues and gospel recordings. Songs like «Natural Blues» and «Porcelain» became emblematic of that sound, licensed widely in film and advertising and helping bring electronic music to a broad audience.
His subsequent records, including «18» and «Hotel», continued to blend melancholic melodies with dance-floor rhythms, while later work leaned into ambient and orchestral textures. Beyond music, Moby is known as an outspoken vegan and animal-rights advocate, and as a photographer and writer. His catalog spans club anthems, film scores, and introspective ballads, making him a bridge figure between underground electronic scenes and pop culture.
Moby has collaborated with numerous artists over the decades and remains active as a producer and DJ, with a body of work that continues to influence sample-based electronic production.
