Mitski

Mitski is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter known for emotionally intense, genre-blending indie rock that moves between raw guitar noise and delicate, orchestral arrangements. Born to an American father and Japanese mother, she grew up moving between countries before settling in the US, where she studied music composition and began self-releasing albums as a student, developing a close creative partnership with producer Patrick Hyland that has continued throughout her career.

Her breakthrough came with Bury Me at Makeout Creek in 2014, a shift away from the orchestral sound of her earlier work toward a more visceral, guitar-driven style, followed by the widely acclaimed Puberty 2. Signing to Dead Oceans helped bring her music to a much wider audience, and songs like «Your Best American Girl» and «Nobody» established her as a defining voice in 2010s indie rock, known for lyrics that explore identity, longing, and alienation with unusual directness.
