About the artist
Mirazh (Мираж) is a Soviet and later Russian pop group formed in 1986 by producer Andrei Lityagin, widely regarded as one of the pioneering acts of Soviet euro-disco. The project became a defining sound of late-1980s Soviet pop, built around synth-driven arrangements and catchy, danceable melodies that stood in contrast to much of the era’s more restrained officially sanctioned music.
The group’s lineup has changed many times over its history. Margarita Sukhankina was the first vocalist associated with the project, though she departed early on, and the debut album released in 1987 was completed with singer Natalya Gulkina. Ekaterina Boldysheva, who joined in 1990, has remained the group’s vocalist for the longest stretch and is closely identified with Mirazh in its later era. This revolving-door approach to membership, common in Soviet-era pop production, means the «Mirazh» name has represented several different singers across its lifespan.
Sonically, the group is inseparable from the euro-disco sound: bright synthesizers, four-on-the-floor rhythms, and anthemic pop hooks, heard on enduring hits like «Music Has Tied Us», «The Night Is Coming» and «Sunny Summer». Decades after its formation, Mirazh continues to tour across Russia, performing its catalog of hits from the Soviet era to nostalgic audiences.
