About the artist
Mild High Club is the recording project of American multi-instrumentalist Alexander Brettin, formed in 2013. Brettin writes, performs and produces nearly all of the music himself, blending jazz harmony, psychedelic pop textures and lo-fi production techniques into a woozy, sun-bleached sound that recalls 1970s soft rock and fusion as much as contemporary indie pop.
The project's breakthrough came with the albums «Timeline» (2015) and especially «Skiptracing» (2016), a loosely conceptual record built around themes of identity and self-discovery that established Mild High Club's signature blend of dreamy melodies, warm analog textures and laid-back vocal delivery. Songs like «Homage», «Windowpane» and «Kokopelli» exemplify the project's knack for hazy, melodic songwriting that rewards close listening.
Brettin has also become a notable figure in the wider psychedelic and neo-psych scene through his collaborations, most prominently with Australian band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, on the joint album «Sketches of Brunswick East». Mild High Club continues to release music that threads the needle between meticulous studio craft and an intentionally loose, tape-worn feel.
