Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles, originally under the name Kara’s Flowers in the mid-1990s while its members were still in high school. After a debut album failed to make an impact, the group regrouped in the early 2000s, brought in guitarist James Valentine, and rebranded as Maroon 5, adopting a funkier, more radio-friendly sound anchored by Adam Levine’s falsetto-inflected vocals. Their debut, Songs About Jane, produced breakout hits like «Harder to Breathe» and «She Will Be Loved» and established them as a leading pop-rock act of the 2000s.

Over subsequent albums the band steadily shifted from guitar-driven rock toward glossy, synth-heavy pop, a move epitomized by the chart-topping «Makes Me Wonder» and later mega-hits such as «Moves Like Jagger», «Payphone», and «Sugar». This evolution kept them a constant presence on pop radio for two decades, even as their earlier rock identity faded into the background.

Maroon 5’s catalog is marked by collaborations with major pop and hip-hop figures, including Christina Aguilera, Wiz Khalifa, Cardi B, and Kendrick Lamar on «Don’t Wanna Know». Adam Levine’s continued visibility as a coach on The Voice further cemented the band’s mainstream profile, making them one of the most commercially successful crossover acts to emerge from the 2000s alternative and pop-rock scenes.
