MARINA

MARINA, born Marina Diamandis and formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, is a Welsh singer-songwriter who grew up between Wales and Greece before moving to London to pursue music. After several independently released EPs, she gained wider recognition placing on the BBC Sound of 2010 list, and her debut album The Family Jewels (2010) established her as a distinctive voice in art-pop, blending theatrical vocals with sharp, confessional songwriting.

Her 2012 album Electra Heart was a concept record built around a fictional persona—a glossy, exaggerated pop-star archetype—that let her explore commercial pop sounds while commenting on image and identity in the music industry. It became her most commercially successful release. She shifted toward a warmer, more organic sound on FROOT (2015), moving away from the Electra Heart character to more personal songwriting.

Across her catalog, tracks like «Bubblegum Bitch», «Primadonna», «Oh No!» and «Teen Idle» showcase her knack for combining catchy, hook-driven pop with wry, often subversive lyrics about fame, femininity and self-image. Her music sits at the intersection of pop, electronic and rock textures, and she has remained an influential figure for a generation of alternative pop artists who cite her theatrical, idiosyncratic style as a touchstone.
