Major Lazer

Major Lazer is an electronic and dancehall production project formed in 2009 by Diplo and Switch, built around a fictional cartoon commando character and a sound that blends Jamaican dancehall and reggae rhythms with modern EDM, pop and trap production. The project became one of the driving forces behind bringing dancehall-influenced electronic music to mainstream global pop radio during the 2010s.

Over the years the lineup shifted, with Switch, Skerrit Bwoy and Jillionaire all having been members alongside founder Diplo, while the group's current core includes Diplo, Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. Major Lazer released full-length albums including Guns Don't Kill People… Lazers Do, Free the Universe, Peace Is the Mission and Music Is the Weapon, alongside a steady stream of collaborative singles that made it one of the most prolific hit-making acts in electronic music.

Tracks such as «Lean On» with MØ and DJ Snake, «Cold Water» with Justin Bieber and MØ, «Get Free» with Amber Coffman, and «Know No Better» with Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo turned the project into a global chart force, while songs like «Bubble Butt», «Run Up» and «Be Together» further cemented its reputation for infectious, dancehall-rooted pop-electronic crossovers.
