Luke Hemmings

Luke Hemmings (born July 16, 1996) is an Australian musician best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. He grew up in Sydney, learned guitar from his older brother, and began posting cover songs on YouTube as a teenager, which led him to form the band in 2011 with schoolmates Calum Hood and Michael Clifford, later joined by drummer Ashton Irwin. The band's breakout single, «She Looks So Perfect», propelled them to international success and multiple chart-topping albums over the following decade.

Beyond his work with 5 Seconds of Summer, Hemmings stepped into a solo career in 2021 with the release of his debut album When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, introducing a more introspective, stripped-back sound compared to the band's arena-pop style. The lead single «Starting Line» set the tone for a project built around personal songwriting and softer instrumentation, featuring tracks like «Motion», «Saigon», and «Diamonds».

Hemmings' voice — often described as emotive and raspy — has become a signature element of both his solo work and 5SOS's sound, bridging pop hooks with rock sensibilities. His solo output positioned him as a songwriter capable of moving beyond the band format while still drawing on the melodic instincts that made 5 Seconds of Summer one of the most successful pop-rock acts of the 2010s.
