London Grammar

London Grammar is a British indie-pop trio formed in 2009 at the University of Nottingham, consisting of vocalist Hannah Reid, guitarist Dan Rothman, and multi-instrumentalist Dot Major. The group came together after Reid and Rothman connected and began writing together, later recruiting Major, whom they spotted performing on djembe at the student union.

Their 2012 self-released track «Hey Now» spread widely online and drew the attention of Ministry of Sound, leading to the Metal & Dust EP in 2013 and their debut album If You Wait later that year. Reid's powerful, deep alto voice paired with Rothman's atmospheric guitar work and Major's minimalist electronic and percussive textures became the band's defining signature, often compared to acts like The xx for its restrained, spacious production, though the group carved out a more soaring, dramatic sound of their own. Songs like «Strong» and «Wasting My Young Years» became emblematic of their brooding, cinematic style.

London Grammar has continued to release acclaimed albums built on themes of vulnerability, heartbreak, and introspection, with Reid's lyrics frequently drawing on personal and psychological themes. The trio has become one of the defining British acts of the 2010s ambient-pop sound, known for its emotionally intense live performances and cross-genre appeal spanning pop, electronic, and R&B-inflected production.
