Lizzo

Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson on April 27, 1988, is an American singer, rapper and flutist whose music blends pop, hip hop, R&B and soul into an unapologetically upbeat sound built around body positivity and self-love. Raised in Houston and later based in Minneapolis, she cut her teeth in the local hip hop scene as part of groups like The Chalice and GRRRL PRTY before launching a solo career with the 2013 single «Batches & Cookies» and her debut album Lizzobangers in 2014.

Her breakthrough came gradually: the Coconut Oil EP and its single «Good As Hell» built a devoted following, but it was the 2019 album Cuz I Love You and the re-released single «Truth Hurts» that turned her into a global star, with «Truth Hurts» topping the Billboard Hot 100. She followed with «About Damn Time» and further hits that cemented her signature mix of brassy vocals, flute solos and empowering lyrics.

Lizzo has become known not only for her music but for championing body positivity, mental health and joy as artistic statements, collaborating with artists across pop and hip hop while maintaining a distinctly maximalist, feel-good sound.
