Linda Ronstadt

Linda Ronstadt is one of the defining voices of American popular music, celebrated for a career that moved fluidly across rock, country, folk, pop, opera, and traditional Mexican song. Raised in Arizona in a musical family with Mexican-American roots, she first rose to prominence in the late 1960s and became one of the top-selling and most influential female vocalists of the 1970s, known for her interpretive power rather than songwriting — she built her catalog largely from covers, turning songs by other writers into definitive versions.

Her sound is marked by a remarkably versatile voice capable of raw rock intensity and delicate balladry alike, heard on hits like «You’re No Good», «Blue Bayou», and «Don’t Know Much». She was equally willing to pivot genres entirely, recording albums of American standards with arranger Nelson Riddle, Mexican mariachi music on «Los laureles», and bluegrass and country with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, as well as contributing to animated-film soundtracks with «Somewhere Out There».

Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and remains widely regarded as one of the most versatile and commercially successful vocalists in American music history. A Parkinson’s disease diagnosis ended her ability to sing, and she retired from performing in 2011, closing a career that spanned decades and genres.
