About the artist
Lily James (born 5 April 1989) is an English actress from Esher, Surrey, best known for her film and television work who has also lent her voice to several notable soundtrack projects. Trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she brought a background in performance and musical theatre into film roles that called for singing.
Her most prominent musical contributions came through film musicals: she starred as Donna's daughter Sophie in «Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again», performing group numbers alongside the cast as well as solo material like «I Have a Dream». As the title character in Disney's live-action «Cinderella», she performed the classic «A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes». In Danny Boyle's «Yesterday», she joined Himesh Patel for a rendition of The Beatles' «I Want to Hold Your Hand». These roles positioned her as an actress whose singing has become an occasional but memorable extension of her screen work.
James's musical output sits within the pop and musical-theatre tradition tied closely to her film roles rather than a standalone recording career, giving her songs a distinctly cinematic, narrative-driven character shaped by the characters she portrays.
