Liam Payne

Liam Payne (1993–2024) was an English singer and songwriter from Wolverhampton who rose to fame as a member of One Direction, one of the best-selling boy bands of the 2010s, formed on «The X Factor» in 2010. Alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, he helped drive a run of chart-topping albums and stadium tours that made One Direction a defining pop phenomenon of the decade.

When the group went on hiatus in 2016, Payne pursued a solo career leaning into a contemporary pop-R&B sound with hip hop-inflected production, debuting with the single «Strip That Down» in 2017, a global hit that set the tone for his subsequent releases. His solo work, including songs like «Bedroom Floor» and «For You» (a duet with Rita Ora), showed a more urban, dance-driven style than his boy-band output, and he also worked behind the scenes producing and writing for other artists.

Payne's death in October 2024 was met with an outpouring of tributes from fans and collaborators, cutting short a career that had spanned both one of pop's biggest group phenomena and a solo chapter still finding its footing.
