KK (IND)

KK, born Krishnakumar Kunnath on August 23, 1968, in Delhi to Malayali parents, was one of the most versatile and beloved voices in Indian playback singing. Before breaking into film music, he built a career singing advertising jingles, which sharpened the warm, emotionally direct vocal style that would later define his songs. He made his Bollywood debut in 1996 on a soundtrack composed by A. R. Rahman, and from there became a fixture of Hindi film music through the late 1990s and 2000s.

KK's defining trait was his linguistic range: he recorded extensively not only in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and other Indian languages, giving him a truly pan-Indian following rare among playback singers. His 1999 solo album «Pal», featuring the title track and «Yaaron», became a generational touchstone about friendship and remains one of the most cherished non-film Hindi records of its era.

Across his career, KK delivered soulful, melodically rich hits such as «Tu Jo Mila», «Dil Ibaadat», «Aankhon Mein Teri Ajab Si», and «Uppenantha», working with leading composers of Indian cinema. His voice, capable of both tender romantic ballads and energetic upbeat numbers, made him a defining sound of Bollywood music for over two decades, and he remains deeply respected as one of India's finest playback vocalists.
