King Princess

King Princess, born Mikaela Straus on December 19, 1998, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Brooklyn, New York. Raised in a musical family, she picked up guitar and piano early and briefly attended the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music before leaving to pursue her career full-time. She chose her stage name, she has said, because it captures the complexity of her gender identity.

Her breakout single «1950», written for a former girlfriend and inspired by Patricia Highsmith’s novel «The Price of Salt», became an anthem for the LGBTQ community and introduced her distinctive blend of intimate lyricism, warm vintage-leaning production, and pop songcraft. Follow-up tracks such as «Talia» and «Pussy Is God» further defined her sound, mixing bedroom-pop sensibilities with soulful vocal delivery and candid, unguarded songwriting about queer love and identity.

King Princess was among the first artists signed to Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records imprint, a connection that helped shape the polished yet emotionally raw aesthetic of her early releases. She has continued to build a body of work defined by genre-blending production, from stripped-down piano ballads to synth-driven pop, establishing herself as a prominent and openly queer voice in contemporary pop music.
