Kermit the Frog is a character created by American puppeteer Jim Henson, first introduced in 1955 and performed by Henson himself until his death in 1990. As the de facto leader of the Muppets, Kermit is written as an everyman figure trying to keep order amid the chaos of the ensemble around him, a role that made him one of the most enduring and recognizable characters in American television and film.
