Kavinsky is the stage persona of Vincent Belorgey, a French electronic musician and actor whose music is built around a fictional character: a zombie stuck reliving the moment of his fatal car crash in a Ferrari Testarossa in 1986. This concept, inspired by 1980s films and TV shows, shapes the retro-futuristic, synth-driven sound of his releases, placing him within the French synthwave and outrun scene alongside contemporaries associated with labels like Ed Banger and Record Makers.

He gained international recognition through «Nightcall», featured prominently in Nicolas Winding Refn's 2011 film Drive, which introduced his moody, analog-synth aesthetic to a global audience and became a touchstone track for the synthwave revival. His debut album OutRun (2013) expanded on this cinematic, nocturnal sound with tracks like «Suburbia», «Roadgame», and «Pacific Coast Highway», cementing his reputation as a key architect of the genre's atmosphere.

Kavinsky's music is characterized by driving arpeggiated basslines, vocoder-processed vocals, and a nostalgic, cinematic mood evoking neon-lit highways and 1980s action films. Later work, including collaborations and remixes such as «Odd Look» with The Weeknd, and tracks like «Zenith» and «First Blood», show him continuing to refine his signature blend of melancholy and retro cool while occasionally reaching into pop and hip-hop-adjacent collaborations.
