Kat DeLuna is an American singer of Dominican descent who emerged in the late 2000s as part of a wave of pop-R&B artists blending Latin, dance and hip-hop influences. Signed to Epic Records, she broke through with the 2007 single «Whine Up», a bilingual, dancehall-flavored track that became an international club hit and reached the Top 40 in numerous countries, while topping the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Her debut album, «9 Lives» (2007), leaned into uptempo, beat-driven production suited for radio and clubs alike, with follow-up single «Run the Show» — featuring Busta Rhymes — becoming another dance-chart hit and cementing her presence in the electro-pop and urban dance space of the era.
