KAJ

KAJ is a Fenno-Swedish trio from Ostrobothnia in western Finland, formed by Kevin Holmström, Axel Åhman and Jakob Norrgård. They sing primarily in the Vörå dialect of Swedish spoken in their home region, occasionally mixing in Finnish or English, which gives their music a strongly regional, dialect-driven identity rare in mainstream pop. Their sound blends pop and rap with a self-deprecating, comedic sensibility rooted in rural Ostrobothnian life and humor.

The group built a following with songs such as «Bara bada bastu», «Mosquito» and «Karaoke», mixing catchy pop hooks with rap verses and playful, often absurdist lyrics about sauna culture, small-town life and local customs. Their embrace of the Vörå dialect — normally associated with a small, tightly-knit Swedish-speaking minority in Finland — turned what could have been a niche regional joke into a distinctive artistic signature that resonated well beyond Ostrobothnia.

KAJ represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest with «Bara bada bastu», bringing international attention to their dialect-pop formula and to the Fenno-Swedish community more broadly. Their work sits at an unusual crossroads of pop, rap and regional folk humor, standing out for treating a minority language and hyperlocal culture as a source of pride rather than a limitation.
