Juan Luis Guerra

Juan Luis Guerra is a Dominican singer, songwriter, and producer born on June 7, 1957, celebrated as one of the most important figures in modern Caribbean music. Fronting his group 4.40, he modernized merengue and bachata by blending them with jazz, salsa, and pop harmonies, giving both genres new international visibility while preserving their Dominican roots.

His songwriting is marked by poetic, socially conscious lyrics alongside romantic themes, evident in classics like «Ojalá Que Llueva Café», «La Bilirrubina», «Bachata Rosa», and «A Pedir Su Mano». The album «Bachata Rosa» in particular helped bring bachata from a marginalized regional style to mainstream Latin American and international audiences.

Guerra has won multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards and has written songs performed by other prominent artists such as Luis Miguel and Emmanuel.
