Jovanotti

Jovanotti is the stage name of Lorenzo Cherubini, born in Rome in 1966, one of Italy's most popular and enduring pop artists. He began his career as a club DJ in the mid-1980s before being launched by producer Claudio Cecchetto, and his debut album «Jovanotti for President» is considered one of the first rap records made in Italy, helping introduce hip-hop to a mainstream Italian audience.

Through the 1990s his sound evolved away from straightforward rap toward a hip-hop-inflected take on world music, blending funk, reggae and Brazilian and African influences. His lyrics grew more reflective, touching on philosophy, spirituality and politics, a shift heard in songs like «Penso Positivo» and «Il mio nome è mai più». Alongside this musical evolution he became known for social and humanitarian activism, collaborating with various charitable causes.

In the 2000s and beyond Jovanotti produced some of his best-known work, including «Mi Fido di Te», «Fango» (written after his brother's death in a plane accident), and «A Te». Songs such as «Un Mondo a Parte» and «Oh, Vita!» reflect his continued presence on Italian charts, marked by an upbeat, danceable sound paired with introspective songwriting.
