Jorge Drexler

Jorge Drexler is a Uruguayan musician, singer-songwriter, and physician born in Montevideo, active in music since the early 1990s. Trained as an otolaryngologist before turning fully to songwriting, he moved to Spain to pursue music and became one of the most celebrated Latin American singer-songwriters of his generation. His work sits at the intersection of pop and rock with strong folk and Latin American roots, marked by intricate, literate lyrics, subtle rhythmic experimentation, and a warm, understated vocal delivery.

Drexler gained international recognition when he won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for «Al Otro Lado del Río», written for the film The Motorcycle Diaries, becoming the first Uruguayan to receive an Oscar.
