About the artist
JONES, the stage name of British singer-songwriter Cherie Jones-Mattis, emerged in the mid-2010s as one of the UK’s most talked-about new voices in soulful, electronic-tinged pop. Her breakthrough single «Indulge», released in 2015, introduced a sound built on warm, expressive vocals layered over atmospheric production, and follow-up tracks like «Hoops» and the HONNE collaboration «Melt» built momentum ahead of her debut album.
That album, New Skin, arrived in October 2016 and drew praise for its vocal warmth and stylistic range, blending elements of R&B, pop, and downtempo electronic music into a cohesive, moody body of work. JONES continued to develop her sound through collaborations, including Shy Luv’s «Shock Horror» and CAZZETTE’s «Handful of Gold», as well as the TIEKS-produced solo single «Something Bout Our Love».
In the years that followed she pursued a more intimate, stripped-back direction with a planned series of acoustic EPs, releasing New York and London installments, though a proposed Paris EP did not materialize. She signed to BMG in 2020 and released a fully produced version of «Giving It Up», a track first heard on the London EP, marking a new chapter in her ongoing career as an independently minded artist within the British pop and soul landscape.
