Johnny Flynn

Johnny Flynn is an English singer-songwriter, actor and the frontman of Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, a folk-rock band signed to Transgressive Records. Also a poet and actor, he draws on literary influences including W.B. Yeats and Shakespeare, and his songwriting is often noted for its literate, narrative-driven lyricism paired with acoustic, folk-rooted arrangements built around fiddle, banjo and warm string textures.

The band's debut album, «A Larum», was released in 2008 on Vertigo Records and earned critical acclaim, including a nomination for the XFM music award and recognition from Paste magazine as one of the best releases of that year. It was followed by the «Sweet William» EP in 2009 and the second album «Been Listening» in 2010, after which the band moved to Transgressive Records and toured extensively. Flynn also composed the soundtrack for the film «A Bag of Hammers» in 2012.

The band's third and fourth albums, «Country Mile» (2013) and «Sillion» (2017), continued to develop their blend of folk, country and rock influences. Flynn's parallel acting career has often intersected with his music, most notably through the television series «Detectorists», for which he wrote the theme song, later collected in versions such as the full studio recording. His work sits at the intersection of British folk revival and singer-songwriter tradition, distinguished by its literary sensibility and ensemble instrumentation.
