John Rutter

John Rutter is an English composer, conductor, and arranger, one of the most widely performed composers of choral music in the world. He studied music at Clare College, Cambridge, and became known from an early age for writing accessible, melodically direct choral works, especially Christmas carols and sacred anthems intended for church and concert choirs. He founded his own choir, the Cambridge Singers, along with his own recording label, allowing him to produce and conduct definitive recordings of his own compositions and arrangements.

Rutter's musical language draws on English choral tradition while remaining approachable and warm, favoring clear harmonies, lyrical melodic lines, and orchestration that ranges from simple organ or piano accompaniment to full orchestra. Works such as «For The Beauty Of The Earth», «Shepherd's Pipe Carol», and «A Gaelic Blessing» have become staples of choral repertoires in churches, schools, and concert halls worldwide, performed every year particularly during the Christmas season.
