Joan Baez

Joan Baez, born in Staten Island, New York, emerged in the early 1960s as one of the defining voices of the American folk revival. Her crystalline soprano and interpretive skill turned traditional ballads and contemporary songwriting alike into vehicles for emotional and political expression, and she quickly became a fixture of the Greenwich Village folk circuit before achieving national fame.
