About the artist
JJ, the stage name of Johannes Pietsch, is an Austrian-Filipino singer and countertenor from Vienna. He rose to international attention by representing Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel with his song «Wasted Love», ultimately winning the contest and becoming only the third Austrian act to do so. His path to the stage was shaped by classical training: he attended the opera school of the Vienna State Opera and has continued his studies at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna since 2023.
JJ's music blends pop and electronic production with a countertenor vocal range rarely heard in mainstream pop, giving his sound a distinctive, operatic edge that sets him apart from typical Eurovision entries. «Wasted Love» itself moves between fragile balladry and a soaring, dramatic electronic climax, showcasing both his classical control and his willingness to push into contemporary pop textures.
Beyond the Eurovision-winning single, his catalogue includes tracks such as «Shapeshifter», «Back to Forgetting» and «Haunting Me», along with remix and live versions of «Wasted Love», including a version reworked by CYRIL. His crossover between opera training and pop songwriting has made him one of the more distinctive new voices to emerge from the Eurovision platform in recent years.
